Honda unveils a new Civic Type R in Paris
September 30 2016, Portland Street Honda
Enthusiasts rejoiced yesterday when it was finally confirmed that Honda would unveil the all-new Honda Civic Type R concept at the Paris Motor Show. Already spectacular in its current generation, the Honda Civic Type R shown in Paris as a prototype is even more impressive.
The Honda Civic Type R is coming to Canada
As is often the case with presentations of its kind, we do not have much information on the new Civic Type R. We do know, however, that it will eventually come to Canada. We’ve be talking about the Type R coming this way for over a year now, so it remains to be seen if we will be getting the current generation, or a production version of the concept unveiled in Paris.
What is certain is that the Honda Civic Type R, regardless of the generation, will turn heads everywhere it goes. The prototype hidden under the veil in the city of love and presented yesterday is simply spectacular with its 20-inch wheels, its oversized spoiler, and aggressive and complex lines. The center-mounted triple exhaust gives the car a sporty and unique look, and we certainly hope they make it to the final production version.
Distinctive red emblems confirm what the Type R is all about, as do the red inserts in the bumpers which the lower portion is made of carbon fiber.
Honda did not provide any details about the Honda Civic Type R’s engine, but rumors have already begun to circulate. Indeed, the same turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter from the current Type R could find its way into the new model, but power would increase to 350 horsepower which would be sent to the front wheels using a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Honda Civic Type R should be launched in Europe in the spring of 2017 before coming to Canada later in the year.
