The 2nd Best Time to Book Your Winter Tire Change
September 21 2020,
As the leaves start to fall to the curb, you may have found yourself thinking about your winter tires. There’s no question that having winter tires on your vehicle is an essential part of making it through the Nova Scotia winters, but many people still find themselves asking, “when is the right time to call and make my appointment?” Well, we ran that by our service team, and here’s what they said…
“Yesterday.”
The good news is, the second-best time is: “right away” Many drivers believe Mid November is the best time to make the change; however, that means that by Mid-November, it can be tricky to get that “premium appointment time” you had hoped for (because everyone else had the same idea).
This year COVID-19 has made that “Tire Rush” even larger, with appointments booking 3-4 weeks out in some cases. By booking in advance of the rush, you not only get to avoid the less ideal scheduling, but you’ll also get to take advantage of tire rebate programs and a better selection of tires.
Perhaps the most important advantage is the safety itself. Winter tires are ideal in temperatures under 7° Celsius (which anyone with a morning commute would be beginning to encounter now). We can’t be certain of when the first snowfall will be, but black ice and frost begins to occur far in advance of winter. It’s natural to want to get the most out of your summer tires and try to avoid driving on your winter tires in warmer weather.
But with the weather continuing to get colder and the risks of road conditions worsening, it’s best to book your tire change “right away” for the sake of both convenience, driving confidence, and above all, safety.
